A big factor in the difficulty will be how much you've built up Raelag's destruction magic capabilities (and skills to support this like Sorcery). I remember the mission you're on- the main difficulty was numerous powerful heroes that seem to come from every direction, plus needing to run back to deal with those heroes (and any messenger heroes, later in the map) when you want to try to find and take enemy towns. Seems I fail at reading comprehension- got the whole campaign wrong. The challenge of the map will conclude with the second battle with Findan- once that's done with you're pretty much clear and just need to mop things up everything before that point is making sure you're prepared for that battle. Don't worry about the druids generating a bunch of neutral stacks- they're annoying, but not a threat only take care of them once you're in the mop-up phase of the map.

Expand aggressively to capture as many mines and free resources as you can to speed in building up the town- trade for small amounts of resources if you need them, just try to build a creature generator or resource generator building every turn.

At that point start building up the elven town as fast as you can- focus on getting base buildings first before upgrading them, so that you can be building up recruitable creatures while waiting for the resources to full upgrade your town. Don't focus much on building up your starting demon town (aside from it's money-generating capacity)- it's main purpose is to get you just enough forces to let you capture the first elven town. If this is the mission you're having trouble with then the thing to keep in mind is that the main challenge you'll be facing is a couple of fairly powerful, scripted heroes being thrown at you, and your job is to make sure your forces are built up enough to handle those heroes when they show up (and without losing so many forces that you're not able to recovery in time for the next tough hero). To echo the previous poster, what specific mission is giving you trouble? The first two shouldn't be particularly difficult, although the third can often represent a significant jump in difficulty compared to what you've faced up until then.
